I am a Catholic and have a lot of favourite saints. Most of them are martyrs and wouldn't be very well known. I learned about them on the internet and in books. The Orthodox church has a great devotion to saints, especially martyrs and I found icons and representations of most of the martyrs on some of their sites. I am grateful for that, because it's hard to find images of saints who are obscure.
St. Philomenus was a martyr put to death in Ancyra (modern Ankara) in Turkey. He persevered through ferocious torments. They had his feet, hands and head pierced with nails! As well as that, he was forced to walk, while enduring these tortures until he collasped and died. I admire him for his bravery, patience and strength. He persevered to the end. He left this world wounded and bloody, but now he wears a palm and a golden diadem in Heaven.
St. Philomenus is celebrated on November 29th.
I pray to him when I need help......with anything, really. St. Philomenus always helps me. I am never left unanswered. He is a great intercessor, and I know that I can turn to him whenever I need a favor, or encouragement, or comfort. I wouldn't be able to count all the favors, he has done for me over the years.
